Specialized S-Works

World Champion Peter Sagan

Specialized was founded in 1974 by riders for riders.  Based in Northern California, we focus on the rider’s need for functional and technically advanced products that provide a performance benefit. In the words of founder and owner Mike Sinyard,

"It all started in 1974 with a love of bicycles and very little else. In 1974 I sold my VW bus for fifteen-hundred dollars to ride through Europe. While over there I saw an opportunity to import hard-to-get parts. When I returned, I launched this brand based on the founding principle to focus on the rider’s need for technically advanced products that provide a performance benefit. There was a way I worked back then that is just as relevant today as it will be tomorrow and forever. It’s the Specialized way, and it is our commitment to innovate and inspire to improve riders’ lives and earn the position as their brand of choice."

These are Specialized's founding principles:

  • The rider is the boss
  • Seek to understand
  • Innovate or die
  • Adapt immediately
  • Simplify and go
  • Design drives us
  • Attack for progress
  • Do the right thing
