The Monuments

The theme for the 2017 Rouleur Classic is the legendary Monuments

The Monuments have given us so much great racing history to celebrate and we are delighted to be officially partnered with the race organisers of these five iconic races.

Brian Holm, Directeur Sportif at Quick-Step, and the man behind the stylish new clothing brand, 12:16, will be curating art installations to celebrate each of the five Monuments. There will also be a Monuments gallery, shot by talented photographers Marshall Kappell and Kristof Ramon.

There will of course be a stellar line-up of guests joining us too, with many to be confirmed over the coming months - we’re very proud to have created an event that pro riders love to attend.

Classics legend Johan Museeuw is planning to ride from Ypres to London to attend the event (keep an eye out for more news on this) and he’ll be joined by fellow Belgian legends Peter Van Petegem and Nico Mattan.

Join us for a Monumental Celebration of Cycling at the Rouleur Classic.

MILAN-SANREMO

18.03.17 - Winner: Michał Kwiatkowski

The first Monument of the year traditionally provides rich pickings for the sprinters but the twists and turns of the Poggio provide a dose of unpredictability in its finale - Milan-Sanremo is a race that symbolises the emergence of spring and the traditional start of the cycling season.

2.04.17 - Winner: Philippe Gilbert

The focal point of Flemish culture, battleground of cycling's legendary hardmen - only the most resilient riders can survive such a brutal parcours and triumph at the end. This year, in its 101st edition, the infamous and often decisive Muur returns to the race.

PARIS-ROUBAIX

9.04.17 - Winner: Greg Van Avermaet

As proven by Mat Hayman in 2016, Paris-Roubaix is a race where miracles can happen - the site of so many of cycling's legendary feats, the brutal pavé providing a grisly backdrop for extraordinary feats of endurance and courage. Truly the Hell of the North.

23.04.17 - Winner: Alejandro Valverde

The venerable Old Lady of the Ardennes, the oldest of the Classics, first held in 1892. Looping through the lush, undulating Wallonian countryside, Liège-Bastogne-Liège favours the kind of rider who can keep a cool head and muster a sprint at the end of over 250km of racing.

The Race of the Falling Leaves, Il Lombardia, the final Monument is a climber's race, with the Madonna del Ghisallo as its centrepiece. A favourite climb of legends Coppi and Bartali, topped by a shrine honouring the patroness of cyclists, legends of the sport and those taken too soon.
